The history of our company

It was 1975 when an all-Italian story began, this is the result of a passion for the sea and sailing. A passion that continues and which makes Max Prop® a company with a strong family character, with solid roots typical of Italian artisan manufacturing dedicated to quality, but characterized by a very strong spirit of innovation and the desire to always push itself a little beyond the limits imposed by technology. It couldn’t be otherwise: it was precisely a technological innovation that marked the beginning of Max Prop®.

Words that still today reflect the company mission: to promote constant technological innovation in naval propulsion systems while respecting the basic principles on which the company is founded: attention to detail, high quality, durability and customization.

The first Max Prop® propeller with adjustable blades, first on the market and patented in 1975, was designed specifically for racing yachts. A device allowed the blades to automatically arrange themselves in their feathering position, thus reducing the resistance to advancement during sailing to a minimum. Two years after its release on the market, just two racing seasons, and the Max Prop® propeller became the undisputed means of motor propulsion for the fastest offshore racing boats. At that time it was the only Italian technology in this field to have had such a consecration as to be exported all over the world. It is therefore no surprise that among the first to use this new type of propeller were Raul Gardini, with the Moro di Venezia, Herbert Von Karajan with Helisara and Gaston Defferre with Palynodie.

Subsequently, even sailing enthusiasts who did not participate in regattas realized the advantages of the Max Prop® propeller. In fact, until the appearance of this innovative product, traditional fixed-blade propellers allowed good motor navigation, but created high resistance to advancement during sailing. The Max Prop propeller definitively solved this problem, allowing good navigation both by motor and sail.

Max Prop® Srl quickly became a world leader in its sector. We can confidently say that even today, all the most prestigious sailing yachts in the world are equipped with the Max Prop® propeller.
